In publishing this second edition of The Education of Tomorrow at several-year intervals, I see no inclination to make any changes. The events that have taken place in recent years have only provided constant confirmation to the ideas that will be developed here, and with which I have long been imbued. They could almost be summarized in the following two propositions: Education means liberation; Education is the guarantee of the social transformation that is about to take place.

One might believe that the governing bourgeoisie has moved in the direction of reaction with a more pronounced resolution, judging superficially. This would be a mistake. The bourgeoisie has always been fiercely reactionary. But it has tried to mask its game. Today, it is forced to show itself as it is; this is a sign of weakness. Against it, all consciences are rising. Against it, all the friends of education must band together.

I thank with all my heart, in conclusion, the valiant squad of Temps Nouveaux; it is thanks to them that this new edition can see the light of day. It would be desirable, for the cause of education, that it could find many defenders as resolute and courageous.
